Competitions

Learning Statement: In this article you’ll learn how to use the special Competition slides within OMBEA Response.
Audience: This article is aimed at all OMBEA Response users.

Background

When it comes to competitions, by default OMBEA will pit individual voters against each other. You can also arrange them into teams, if you wish, using the Group Assignment slide within the Competition section. Grouping works by assigning individual handsets to a group.

During the competition OMBEA can display team and individual leaderboards. For these to work your questions must have correct answers or points assigned for people to score against. By default OMBEA answer options are all worth 0 points. You can go a stage further by assigning negative point values where appropriate.

Setting Teams (Optional)

  1. On the OMBEA Response ribbon click on the bottom half of the New button.
  2. From the menu that appears, click Competition.
  3. Click Group Assignment.
  4. OMBEA adds a new question slide to your presentation. Use this slide to ask the audience to select which team they belong to by typing up to ten team names.

Creating questions with correct answers

  1. Select your question slide.
  2. On the OMBEA Response ribbon, in the Polling Customisation section, select use the drop down next to the word Answer to select the answer option you wish to assign a point value to.
  3. Beneath this box, enter a number of points, positive or negative, and press Enter.

You can assign points to multiple answer options on the same question if you need to, simply by repeating steps 2 and 3.

Add a Leaderboard

  1. On the OMBEA Response ribbon click on the bottom half of the New button.
  2. From the menu that appears, click Competition.
  3. Click either Participant Score Leaderboard, Quickest Participant Leaderboard or Group Score Leaderboard.
  4. OMBEA will add a slide to your presentation showing the top 5 individuals or teams. In the slide properties for a Leaderboard slide, you can use the Number of participants shown property in combination with First position to show more than just the top 5 entries.
  5. Run your presentation. When you reach the Leaderboard slide, the table will take a moment to update and will then present your ranked results.

The Quickest Participant Leaderboard combines highest score and quickest time to rank participants. You can avoid tie breakers by making the Leaderboard show results for all previous questions slides. The setting you need is in the slide properties, accessed by clicking Properties on the OMBEA Response tool bar.
