Enhanced Question Slides

Learning Statement: In this article you’ll learn about all the different ways you can enhance your slides in OMBEA Response.
Audience: This article is aimed at all OMBEA users.

Changing the chart type

Background

In OMBEA Response you can change the chart from the default vertical bar chart to other options such as pie charts, horizontal bars, and more. If you are interested in changing the chart template, that is, customising the colours, labels and fonts, then see Changing the Chart Template further down.

Option 1: Creating a question slide with a different chart style from the beginning

  1. On the OMBEA Response ribbon, click the bottom half of the New button. OMBEA will give you a drop-down menu. Select Multiple Choice and then choose one of the chart types.
  2. Complete your question as normal.

Option 2: Changing an existing chart style

  1. On the OMBEA Response ribbon, click Properties.
  2. In the Settings panel, on the left hand side, select the question you would like to update.
  3. Under the Chart Heading section, choose a new Chart Type using the drop-down list.
  4. Alternatively to change this setting permanently for all new slides, select General Properties on the left hand side rather than a specific slide. You’ll find the Default Chart Type setting under Chart Miscellaneous.

Assigning points or scores to answer options

Background

When polling multiple choice questions you can define correct or incorrect answers simply by assigning points to the correct answers. By default OMBEA answer options are all worth 0 points. You can go a stage further by assigning negative point values where appropriate.

  1. Select your question slide.
  2. On the OMBEA Response ribbon, in the Polling Customisation section, select use the drop down next to the word Answer to select the answer option you wish to assign a point value to.
  3. Beneath this box, enter a number of points, positive or negative, and press Enter.

You can assign points to multiple answer options on the same question if you need to, simply by repeating steps 2 and 3.

Making the session Anonymous

Background

When polling with OMBEA questions are normally tracked by the Device ID of the participant’s handset. If we set a session to Anonymous mode, OMBEA will not record the Device IDs and so there is no way to tell who voted with which option.

  1. Create your questions as normal.
  2. Before polling, on the OMBEA Response ribbon click the Anonymous button.

Adding a Statistics Board

  1. On the OMBEA Response ribbon, click Properties.
  2. In the Settings panel, on the left hand side, select the question you would like to update.
  3. Under the Poll section, change the setting for Show Statistics Board to Yes.
  4. Alternatively to change this setting permanently for all new slides, select General Properties on the left hand side rather than a specific slide. You’ll find the Show Statistics Board setting under Poll.

Adding a countdown timer with an optional sound

  1. On the OMBEA Response ribbon, click Properties.
  2. In the Settings panel, on the left hand side, select the question you would like to enhance with a countdown timer.
  3. Under the Poll section, change the setting for Time Limit to a value you would like.
  4. By default, the countdown timer will start automatically when you reach this slide during your presentation. If you wish to start the countdown timer manually, simply change the setting for Start Countdown .
  5. If you wish to add a sound that plays while the countdown timer is running, you can do so via the Sound setting in the Poll section. Due to a limitation in the way Microsoft PowerPoint plays sound files, you will find that a .WAV file will work better than any other sound file type.
  6. Alternatively to change this setting permanently for all new slides, select General Properties on the left hand side rather than a specific slide. You’ll find the Time Limit and, Start Countdown, and Sound settings under Poll.
